New Featured Artist

Irene Wood is an American-born, half-Chinese multimedia artist based right here in Seattle, Washington. Her evocative work explores the many ways memory, identity, and cultural inheritance become deeply embedded in the physical spaces we inhabit. Whether painting vast, abstracted landscapes or intimate domestic scenes, Irene is fascinated by how physical spaces carry the traces of human life. 

Her featured series for September is inspired by Joy Harjo’s celebrated poem, Perhaps the World Ends Here. The series serves as a visual meditation on the quiet, omnipresent nature of the kitchen table. As Harjo writes, the table is where “we laugh, cry, argue, pray, give birth, bury our dead.” 

While the kitchen table feels ordinary in our day-to-day lives, Irene's paintings remind us that it is simultaneously grand. This series reimagines the kitchen table as sacred ground—a setting for family rituals, daily tenderness, migration, and belonging. The quiet objects resting on her painted tables hold the echoes of family, friends, and culture, showing how personal and collective histories imprint themselves onto the objects we live with every day.

Staying for September: Rebecca Woodhouse

We are delighted that Rebecca Woodhouse is staying with us for another month, giving visitors another opportunity to experience her intricate, storytelling artwork.

Rebecca's captivating collage work utilizes vintage neckties spanning decades of fashion, sourced from the extensive collection of a friend’s father who was a WWII survivor. Through these varied patterns and textures, she weaves complex stories of loss, shared pasts, and generational bonds. Alongside her necktie collages, Rebecca’s multi-layered paintings and linocut hybrids invite viewers to reflect on gender roles, materials, and contemporary balance.
