Thankful For

For the month of November, CAPERS has sent out a post a day to show what we are ‘Thankful For’. More than anything, we are ‘Thankful For’ our customers and our West Seattle Junction community! It is so important that we appreciate and support one another in our neighborhood.

We want to highlight a few of the things that we have been ‘Thankful For’ so far this month, as today is all about being appreciative!

As stated previously, we are so ‘Thankful For’ local businesses that encourage shopping small and keep our community thriving! Thank you to all of our neighbors on California Ave.

Small Business Saturday is coming up this Saturday so head to the Junction and get some Christmas Shopping Done! CAPERS also carries many local goods from local artists, jewelers, ceramicists, authors, etc. We are so ‘Thankful For’ all of our artists!

We also want to express how ‘Thankful’ we are for fair trade organizations and products. Fair trade means that workers are treated fairly with their time, duties and pay. We are huge supporters of fair trade products and have many in-store.

Last but not least, we are very ‘Thankful For’ Le’Jacquard for enabling us to carry their beautiful linens for many years. We love the bright colors and intricate designs.

Thank you to all of the manufacturers that help us to make our store beautiful! We are so appreciative of the creating process, workers, delivery drivers, customers, employees and everyone who makes this possible. Thank you!

Artist Invitational

CAPERS is hosting the 2nd Annual Abstract and Ceramics Invitational on November 8th from 5-8pm. This invitational will feature 8 artists and 8 potters and their work will be available for purchase in-store.

One potter, Marie Turnow, is a nature lover and uses elements and designs from everyday life. “Amid the craziness of our big city culture, nature nurtures and continues to delight the senses. My work reflects the seasons, textures and Northwest beauty that I view right here in West Seattle. Her ceramics are food and dishwasher safe.

Similarly, Nicole Pepper of ModHome Ceramics is also inspired by her surroundings. “I love clay and all the functional and sculptural ways it holds. Clay can bring a connection to the Earth and warmth.” With her BFA from West Washington University, Nicole has been experimenting and finding her way ever since.  “Each piece here has been uniquely hand-crafted, inspired by nature and daily life. My hope is to bring joy into this modern world one piece at a time.

Tracy Madison took her first ceramics class in January of 2016, and she never looked back. Working as an art director and stylist in the photo world, she has been surrounded by inspiration her whole career. Only when she hand-formed her first platter did she realize it was her calling. She created her brand and company, Madisonware in 2016.

Along with ceramicists, the Invitational will feature local artists with abstract paintings and photographs. One of the 8 artists, includes photographer, Todd Kowalski. Todd began photography when he was in high school in the early 70’s. By commuting on bicycle, Todd is able to capture the ever fleeting moments that he comes across; this opens the spectrum to what he is able to photograph.

Another artist that will have their art available is Mary Parkes. Mary is a contemporary realism painter that captures joy in her paintings. Her work is done on clear glazed linen, canvas and regular linen. In her abstract paintings, she uses hints of color to brighten up the natural hues, like this painting titles ‘Swoosh’.

Last but not least, Diana Grant paints everything from still life to landscape to abstract. Diana is local, from Kirkland, WA and is most know for her achievements in landscape paintings. Her work is acrylic on canvas and ranges from bright colors to pastels.

Le’ Jacquard Francais Trunk Show

As the Le’ Jacquard Francais Trunk Show approaches, we want to highlight the quality and durability of these linens to give you the “why” behind choosing this brand.

Le’ Jacquard has been a textile manufacturer since 1888. They are a leader in the high-end table market and have over 2,000 retailers across the world. The fine-combed, long fibers are made of linen and cotton. The weave is criss-crossed throughout, enabling the color to show through on both sides. Le’ Jacquard set out to break traditional norms of white table linens and bring extreme color into the home, that will withstand the test of time.

This floral-themed tablecloth is made of 100% cotton and coated in acrylic gloss. Just like the coated placemats and napkins, the acrylic provides an easy-to-clean linen in which you can just wipe down with a damp sponge; no solvent required. This material is waterproof and stain resistant. This is handy for family meals and is designed for frequent use.

The Pondicherry Spices tablecloth is 100% linen and perfect for fall! This India-inspired cloth is a beautiful design with three contrasting colors that add a pop of color to the room. Linen that is well-cared for will last for years and years and make for a great addition to any home.

The Provence Beige runner is 100% cotton and is inspired by the south where a table can be the balcony, a patio, the grass, etc. This item is perfect for year-round entertaining and can be accented with colored napkins or tableware. A runner softens up your dining table and adds a different dimension to your table setting, while allowing your table’s character to still show through.

The trade show will take place on November 3rd from 11-3pm and the entire line will be 20-30% off. Bring in color swatches of your home along with table measurements, and we will pair you with the perfect table cloth and home linens. If you already know what you want, you can head to the store any time between October 13th and November 10th to receive the discounts as well.
